Absolut Fringe 2012: HIPSTERS WE MET AND LIKED

The Company's HIPSTERS WE MET AND LIKED as part of ABSOLUT Fringe 2012

The Company's HIPSTERS WE MET AND LIKED as part of ABSOLUT Fringe 2012

Hipsters are completely annoying, so the idea of a show about hipsters completely breaks the annoy-o-meter. What is even more annoying? When everybody in the audience are hipsters too, and they are all mates and are all taking and laughing — but then you see someone you know and you’re like, oh hey, cool!

Earnestly self-absorbed, The Company’s latest is a boy and girl meet each other in primary school, boy and girl are too nervous to hook up in secondary school, boy and girl are housemates and still too nervous to hook up sort of love story. Devised by Nyree Yergainharsian and Brian Bennett, they’ve collected photos from other hipsters, worldwide, and made an art exhibit. We've been asked round so they can tell us about The Work— which just an excuse for them to perform their relationship, but then everything is just an excuse for a hipster to perform their hipsterness.

You can't help but like them, you totally can’t, especially when you realise that they are actually into each other? So you kind of think, hey, maybe they will finally admit that they’re in love? But then the show doesn’t so much as end as just stop. And you’re all like, whoa, whatever.
