The Abbey Theatre has appointed Róise Goan and Jane Brennan to its board, filling positions vacated by the performer Olwen Fouéré and Rough Magic’s director Lynne Parker who both stepped down some months ago.
Brennan, one of the country’s most recognisable actors and co-founder of B*Spoke Theatre Company, ensures a continuing presence of performers in the governance of the National Theatre; while Goan, artistic director of the Absolut Fringe festival and co-founder of Project Brand New, represents a curatorial nous and a focus on stimulating new work.
“Both Jane and Róise are important theatre artists operating in Ireland at present,” the Abbey’s director, Fiach MacConghail, said of their appointments, “and the Abbey Theatre board will benefit from their wisdom and insight at what is an interesting and challenging time for the Abbey Theatre and the arts in Ireland.”
